A Party Just for Reading
For the school’s first trimester Accelerated Reading party 150 students were treated to a screening of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and the “Charlie Brown Christmas” TV special. The kids also had so much fun decorating cookies and making jingle bell necklaces, says Leah Stuart, AR Party chair, who put together the event last week in the Multipurpose Room. Lending a hand were parent volunteers Tammy, Alex, Kristy and Roxanne. Principal Ms. Farris helped out, too!
Book Fair a Bestseller
Nothing beats an e-reader or tablet like the real thing. And students picked up real books by the armful at the five-day Book Fair in the school library. For the new librarian, Mrs. Bianca Cramer, this was a major fundraiser. It was worth it: The book fair sold $9,389 worth of books, almost double the sales from December 2015. Scholastic Book Fairs will return almost half of that to the school for the purchase of library and instructional materials, Mrs. Cramer said. But the real author was parent volunteer Ellen Johnston who helped put together the event and round up the volunteers to staff the fair at recess, lunch and afterschool for four days. Ghost writers (volunteers) were Johana Flores, Tania Ruvalcaba, Tammy Wamsley, Alejandra Ortega, Roxanne Walk, Josephine Erickson, Marissa Murguia, Molly Becker, Alejandra Dubcovsky, Robert Quezada and fourth-grader Faith Quezada. A shiny book marker to all!
What will be Under their Tree?
The PTO invited families to play Santa’s elves this season for 46 Castle View children who needed some holiday cheer. All of the gift tags hanging on the Christmas Giving Tree, located in the school office, were picked. Elves are reminded to deliver the new and unwrapped gift to the school office no later than Friday. Make sure the tag is attached to the gift. Gifts will be distributed to the children before winter break.
Have Lunch with your Dragon!
A Castle View favorite is returning! Lunch on the Lawn will be held Wednesday, December 16th. Bring a lunch and blanket, and share some quality time with your kid(s)! Lunch schedule: Kinder, 10:50-11:35; 1st and 2nd: 11:05 - 11:50; 3rd and 4th: 11:30-12:15; and 5th and 6th, 11:55-12:40. Your child must remain at school until dismissal time at 12:50 p.m. If you decide to pull your child/children out of school for the day, they will receive an Early Release Checkout, which counts against their attendance.
The See’s Candy Fundraiser is almost done. The orders can be picked up at the Family Movie Night on Friday, December 16th.
All Aboard ‘The Polar Express’
The winter Family Movie Night will be Friday in the Multipurpose Room. “The Polar Express” will be screened at 6 p.m. Wear your jammies, and bring pillows and blankets (chairs are not allowed cuz Santa said so). Warm your tummy with hot cocoa and popcorn. Our favorite taco caterer will serve delicious meals for $6 a plate. Dinner will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. Space is limited for this event, so come early.
Here’s how you can join the fun!
The next PTO meeting will be Thursday, 4 p.m., in Room B-6. All parents are invited. Come and hear what’s coming up in the spring!
