What is Prime¹Time?
Prime¹Time serves middle school students in the Riverside Unified School District. Its mission is to provide a safe and positive learning atmosphere for students after regular school hours. The program consists of daily educational, recreational and enrichment components. Students are expected to follow all school rules and act respectfully while in the program.
Space in the Chemawa Prime¹Time program is limited. The state funding which pays for this program requires that students attend regularly. Students enrolled in Prime¹Time must attend at least 3 days and 9 hours per week; priority is given to students who attend 5 days a week. The program will take place each school day from the close of the regular school day until 6:00 p.m. starting August 29, 2011. It is the responsibility of parents to make sure that the Prime¹Time participant is picked up daily by 6:00 p.m. Repeated late pick-ups, misconduct, or failure to meet minimum attendance requirements can result in the dismissal of the student from the program.
What is New for Prime¹Time 2011-2012?
Chemawa is very excited to welcome our new Prime¹Time coordinator Lia Boucher. She has worked in the Riverside Unified School District for 30 years, both as teacher and principal. She brings a great deal of instructional expertise to our program. Lia Boucher is very excited to work with our school administration in ensuring solid program implementation while addressing individual student social and academic needs. To support the mission and goals of Chemawa, she also redesigning the Chemawa Prime¹Time format utilizing science and technology themes to engage students in inquiry and engaging activities. This new design will complement the regular homework and tutoring assistance provided in Prime¹Time.
As a state program, Prime¹Time is considered a second session of school, with attendance and participation requirements. However, after-school we have the freedom to engage in non-traditional learning opportunities. For example, we have a portable computer lab, Wii Systems, Dance Revolution and Xbox Kinect to tap into the technology interests of students combined. The tutors assigned to monitoring students during those activities will capture the teachable moments and connect the learning to state standards. Students will be learning without even realizing it!
How to Sign Your Student Up for Prime¹Time: Prime¹Time application forms are available at all Chemawa events as well as in the Chemawa Office every day. Application forms will also be available to your student through his/her 7th period class to take home. Completed forms should be returned to the Chemawa Office.
