Overview of Department

Arlington High School’s English Language Arts curriculum focuses on the development of literacy through the integration of reading,writing, listening, and speaking.  The literature units of study include a variety of genres:  non-fiction, short stories, poetry, drama, mythology, and the novel.  Composition study emphasizes writing as a process and focuses on content, form, and conventions.  All AHS ELA courses meet the UC/CSU entrance requirements for English, and are based upon the California State Standards for English Language Arts.
